Government Arts and Science College, Gingee was established in 2022 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to fulfill the higher educational needs of rural students in and around Gingee, located in Villupuram District. Initially functioning in the campus of Raja Desingh Higher Secondary School, Gingee, the college began its academic journey with around 240+ students offering five major programmes: Tamil, English, Commerce (B.Com.), Business Administration (B.B.A.), and Computer Science. The institution is affiliated with Annamalai University.

The college has been continuously striving to provide quality higher education and academic excellence to students Community. Within a short span of time, the institution earned the trust and confidence of students, parents, and society through its commitment to discipline, academic standards, and student development. It has been playing a vital role in creating higher education opportunities, especially for students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. Various academic, co-curricular, and skill-development activities are also conducted to nurture the talents and abilities of students.

In 2026, the college was shifted to its newly constructed permanent campus at Sittampoondi Village, where it is currently functioning. The new campus has been developed with spacious classrooms, library facilities, computer laboratories, essential infrastructure, and a peaceful academic atmosphere. Designed to meet future educational needs, the campus stands as an excellent center for learning that enhances students knowledge, skills, and social responsibility.

At present, the college is functioning successfully with around 818 students. With its strong commitment to knowledge, discipline, and social values, Government Arts and Science College, Gingee continues to serve as a prominent institution providing quality higher education to rural students.
